L has offered to pick me from Malpensa and be my tour guide in Ticino - how does one say no to that? |

"Things in Iceland are normal, except in the immediate vicinity of the volcano and downwind, where there is a steady rain of ash. The eruption is likely to simmer for a few weeks and wind direction will continue to determine flight disruptions. While prediction is always difficult, especially about the future, travel plans to Iceland in a few weeks should not be adversely affected. There is a much larger volcano right next to the one that is causing all this trouble and if that one starts up as well, disruptions might be much more severe.
We Icelanders are deeply sorry for all these troubles. We were planning to send the British some CASH as compensation for the bank collapse, but the C inexplicably got dropped by a government official." |

Had a rather fantastic dinner: a couple of truffle and roquefort crostini (separately); a slice of silky, salty prosciutto di San Nicola; a small plate of fusilli dressed in aromatic, verdant pesto, topped with fresh basil and parmegiano; a glass of Chianti classico and a good shot of espresso to help me get through the night. A real throwback to exchange dinners - which I miss greatly. |

Just bought a shelf-full of books online - I kid you not. As if I don't have enough to read already. |

Suffering - curious as it may sound to you - is the means by which we exist, because it is the only means by which we become conscious of existing; and the remembrance of suffering in the past is necessary to us as the warrant, the evidence, of our continued identity. |
